the incorporation of TO. This fact was further evidenced by the change of
molar mass for the obtained DCPD-UPR and DCPD-UPR-TO polymers
(Table 8.1). Both the M
w
and M
n
of DCPD-UPR-TO polymers were larger than
those of neat DCPD-UPR. This indicates the occurrence of the Diels-Alder
reaction between DCPD-UPR and TO. Moreover, it was found that almost
maximum values of M
w
and M
n
were reached for a TO content of 10 wt%.
Thereafter the molar masses varied only slightly. This is because the stoi-
chiometric equilibrium of DCPD-UPR to TO in the Diels-Alder reaction is
about 9 : 1 by weight, which is in good agreement with the
1
H-NMR results.
When adding more TO (above 10 wt%) to DCPD-UPR, redundant tung oil
molecules remain in the DCPD-UPR-TO polymers, thus leading to smaller
molar masses (especially M
n
) and larger PDI values.
