On an island where very little thought
goes into design, Emerald Gecko stands miles ahead. Comfortable double-storey bunga-
lows have couches on its upper balcony looking to the water, while pricier rooms have
sumptuous lighting and outdoor bathrooms that feel like Gilligan's Island. All are lovingly
constructed from bamboo rafts drifted ashore from Myanmar. The concrete-floored rooms
at the back are much less attractive. Staff are friendly, its restaurant quality and there's
free filtered water.
