Ooty has some gorgeous colonial-era residences at the high end and some decent back-
packer dosses. There's not much on offer in the lower midrange though. Be warned: it's a
sellers' market in the high season (1 April to 15 June), when many hotels hike their rates
and checkout time is often 9am.

This former brewery
and sprawling complex of cottages is dotted with flower gardens; throw in spacious com-
mon areas including a restaurant with good-value meals (book ahead for these), and
you've got some excellent budget accommodation going on. Rooms are clean and mostly
quite spacious, though high ceilings can mean cold nights; ask for extra blankets if you
might need them.

cent rooms have lake views. It also serves Indian and Continental food at fair prices (?60
to ?180). Hot showers are available for two hours per day; there's a ?20 charge for toilet

The Sweekar hosts guests in
small but clean rooms in a traditional Ooty cottage at the end of a flower-lined path. Hot
water is limited to 7.30am to 9.30am, but the Sweekar is good value for its prices, and is
run by a very helpful Bahai manager.
