There's a booking office for these in the southwest corner of the station. For Kodaikanal, a
good option is to take one of the frequent buses to Dindigul (?30, two hours) and change
there.
Several private bus companies have offices near the Central Bus Station, including Parveen
Travels MAP GOOGLE MAP ( www.parveentravels.com ; 12 Ashby Complex) which offers AC services
to Chennai (?560 to ?720, four daily), Coimbatore (?260, 11.30pm), Bengaluru (?650,
11pm) and Trivandrum (?1300 to ?1400, 12.30am and 1am).

Plenty of travel agencies can provide a car and driver. Femina Travels MAP GOOGLE MAP (
2418532; 109 Williams Rd) has an efficient, reasonably priced service. AC cars for up to 10
hours start at ?1000 plus ?6 per kilometre.
TRAIN
Trichy Junction station is on the main Chennai-Madurai line. Of 15 daily express or Su-
perFast services to Chennai, the best daytime option is the Vaigai Express (2nd/chair class
?104/381, 5¾ hours) departing at 9am. The overnight Rock Fort Express (sleeper/3AC/
2AC/1AC ?164/430/640/1085, seven hours) leaves at 10.20pm. Twelve daily trains to
Madurai include the 7.15am Bharathi Express (2nd/chair class ?71/244, 2¼ hours) and the
1.15pm Guruvaya Express (2nd-class/sleeper/3AC/2AC ?62/120/282/610, 3¼ hours).
Eighteen trains head to Thanjavur (2nd-class/3AC ?37/218, 40 minutes to 1½ hours).
