Getting There & Away
From the bus stand (East Raja St) , bus 599 heads to Chennai's T Nagar Bus Terminus (?27, two
hours) 24 times daily, and AC bus 568C (588C on Saturday and Sunday) runs to Chen-
nai's CMBT (?85, two hours) about hourly, 8am to 9pm. For Chennai Airport take bus
515 to Tambaram (every 30 minutes, 6.20am to 9.30pm), then a taxi, autorickshaw or sub-
urban train from there. There are also nine daily buses to Kanchipuram (?31, two hours)
from the bus stand. Buses to Puducherry (?50, two hours) stop about every half-hour at
the junction of Kovalam Rd and the Mamallapuram bypass, 1km north of the town centre.
Taxis are available from the bus stand, travel agents and hotels. It's about ?1000 to
?1200 to Chennai, or ?1500 to Puducherry.

Getting Around
The easiest way to get around is on foot, though on a hot day it's quite a hike to see all the
monuments. Bicycles can be hired at some guesthouses and hotels, and at a few rental
stalls, usually for ?50 per day.
