the better of several backpacker-oriented places along Othavadai Cross St, the Lakshmi
has lots of rooms in primary colours, and assorted travel services on the ground floor.
Beds range from concrete to carved wood.

great view of the eponymous giant rock from the roof terrace, and a nice lawn. The
smallish but clean, pleasant rooms have old English prints, writing desks and blue-tiled
bathrooms. Breakfast is a good Western-style affair; also welcome is the civilised 24-hour
checkout, rare in Mamallapuram. Free wi-fi throughout.
