Most government buses operate from the large but surprisingly orderly
CMBT
(Chennai Mo-
fussil Bus Terminus; Jawaharlal Nehru Rd, Koyambedu)
, 6km west of the centre. The most comfortable
and expensive are the AC buses, followed by the UD ('Ultra Deluxe'), and these can gen-
erally be reserved in advance. The

has a few daily departures to Bengaluru, Madurai, Mysore, Thanjavur and Trichy, plus bus

Private buses offer generally greater comfort than non-AC government buses to many
