Chandra Park's prices remain mysteriously lower than most comparable establishments.
Standard rooms are small but have air-con, clean towels and tight, white sheets. Throw in

The Bell is a welcome relief from the typical dreary midrange decor. Rooms are smallish,
but they're cheerfully contemporary, bright and colourful and have tea/coffee makers. The
hotel is convenient for Chennai Central station and has a multicuisine restaurant. Wi-fi

The top-end Taj
group has four hotels in and around Chennai but this is the only one with historical ambi-
ence, built in the 1850s as the British governor's residence. There's a beautiful pool in
tropical gardens, and even the smallest rooms are large and very comfy, with all mod
