Beside the unspoilt Kizhunna Ezhara beach, midway between Kannur and Thalassery rail-
way stations (11km from each) the blue Ezhara Beach House is run by no-nonsense Hy-
acinth. The five rooms are simple and small, but the house has character and there's a ter-
race where you can sit and gaze out to sea and enjoy home cooking.

Getting There & Away
BUS
Kannur has several bus stands but the enormous
central bus stand
- the largest in Kerala
- is the place to catch long-distance buses, both private and government. It's about 500m
southeast of the train station. Some government buses also use the
KSRTC bus stand
near the Caltex junction, 1km northeast of the train station.
There are daily buses to Mysore (?190, eight hours, five daily), Mangalore (?92, four
hours, two daily), Madikeri (?63, 2½ hours, 11am) and Mananthavadi (?55, 2½ hours,
hourly) for Wayanad. There's one daily bus to Ooty (via Wayanad, ?171, nine hours) at
10pm.
For Thottada Beach, take bus No 29 (?7) from Plaza Junction opposite the train station
and get off at Adikatalayi village.
TRAIN
There are several daily trains to Calicut (2nd-class/AC chair ?67/205, 1½ hours), Man-
galore (sleeper/3AC/2AC ?140/283/625, three hours) and Ernakulam (?166/420/625, 6½
hours).
