Kailasagiri Hill (Beach Rd; admission ?5, cable car adult/child ?60/30; 11am-8.30pm) has a cable car
with incredible views, playgrounds, a toy train and a gargantuan Shiva and Parvati. A
Telugu-heritage museum is in the works.
Rushikonda , one of the nicest stretches of India's east coast, 10km north of town, is the
best beach for swimming. Weekends are busy and festive. Surfers can rent decent boards
from local surf pioneer, Melville, at SAAP (Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh; 9848561052;
Rushikonda; lessons/board rental ?300/300) . To avoid unwanted attention, gals should go for modest
swim attire (T-shirts and shorts).
MUSEUM
Submarine Museum
(Beach Rd; adult/child ?40/20, camera ?50; 2-8.30pm Tue-Sat, 10am-12.30pm & 2-8.30pm Sun) The 91m-
long Indian navy submarine Kursura saw battle in 1971 during the Liberation War (when
India sided with East Pakistan in its struggle for independence). The museum is a fascinat-
ing look inside the vessel and its jumble of knobs, switches, gauges and dials.
Simhachalam Temple
( 6-10am & 4-6pm) Dedicated to Narasimha, an incarnation of Vishnu, this important 11th-
century temple is atop Simhachalam (literally 'lion hill') 10km northwest of town. Bus
6A/H goes here.
