Bijapur (?210, six hours) and overnight services to Hyderabad (semideluxe/deluxe ?435/
654, 10 hours) at 8.30pm. For Mangalore or Hassan, take a morning bus to Shimoga
(?240, five hours) and change there.
For Goa, Paulo Travels ( 0832-6637777) has a 7pm bus (?355, 11 hours) via Gokarna (?700
to ?800), but arrives at Gokarana at the inconvenient time of 3am, so it's best to go with
the KSTRC bus.
TRAIN
Hospet's train station is a ?30 autorickshaw journey from town. The 5.30am Rayalaseema
Express heads to Hubli (2nd class ?120, 3½ hours). For Bengaluru, take the 8.40pm
Hampi Express (sleeper/2AC ?191/785, nine hours). Every Monday, Wednesday,
Thursday and Saturday, a 6.30am express train heads to Vasco da Gama (sleeper/2AC
?194/715, 8½ hours).
For Badami, catch a Hubli train to Gadag and change there.

WALK ON THE WILD SIDE
Located in the jungles of the Western Ghats about 100km from Goa, emerging Dandeli is a wildlife getaway that
promises close encounters with diverse exotic wildlife such as elephants, leopards, sloth bears, gaur, wild dogs
and flying squirrels. It's a chosen birding destination too, with resident hornbills, golden-backed woodpeckers,

Prosperous Hubli is a hub for rail routes for Mumbai, Bengaluru, Goa and northern
Karnataka. The train station is a 15-minute walk from the old bus stand. Most hotels sit
along this stretch.
