celebrates Huthri , a week-long festival that commemorates the start of the rice harvesting

Madikeri Fort
Originally Tipu Sultan's fort in the 16th century, before Raja Lingarajendra II took
over in 1812, today it's the less glamorous site of the municipal headquarters. Within the
fort's walls are the hexagonal palace (now the dusty district commissioner's office) and
colonial church, which houses a quirky museum (

Raja's Seat

fantastic outlooks to rolling hills and endless valleys.
VIEWPOINT
Raja's Tombs
Stop off en route to Abbi Falls at the quietly beautiful Raja's Tombs, better known
as Gaddige. Built in Indo-Sarcenic style, the domed tombs are the resting place for Ko-
dava royalty and dignitaries. Located 7km from town, an autorickshaw costs ?200 return.

A spectacular sight after the rainy season, these 21.3m-high falls can pack a punch. It's
?250 for a return autorickshaw, including stop off at Raja's Tombs.
