Bandipur Safari Lodge

cottages, but it lacks character and 'safari' atmosphere. However, it's conveniently located
on the fringes of the park, and rates include two safaris per day.
Getting There & Away
Buses between Mysore and Ooty can drop you at Bandipur (?65, three hours), an 88km
journey. Skyway ( Click here ) can arrange an overnight taxi from Mysore for about ?2000.

BILIGIRI RANGANNA (BR) HILLS
Much less known than Bandipur or Nagarhole, the Biligiri Ranganna Temple Wildlife Sanctuary in the BR
Hills makes a great alternative to live out your Jungle Book fantasies. Set over 570 sq km, it was declared a tiger
reserve in 2010 with a population of 36 tigers inhabiting the area - but like most parks, you'll need to be ex-
tremely lucky to spot one. Elephants, leopards, sloth bears and dholes (wild dogs) also roam the hills here.
The government-owned K Gudi Wilderness Camp ( www.junglelodges.com ; per person tented camp incl full
board & activities ?7000, huts ?7500) has a fantastic site among the peaceful forest, with grazing warthog and
spotted deer. Accommodation is in tented cottages or delightful stilted log cabins, and rates include meals, two sa-
faris and wildlife screenings in the evening.
The wildlife sanctuary is a 4½-hour drive from Bengaluru. It's best to hire a vehicle although it is theoretically
possible to get there by public transport. You can either catch a direct 7.45am bus from Mysore to K Gudi, or oth-
erwise a bus to Chamarajanagar and connect to a 1.30pm bus to K Gudi. From Chamarajanagar you can arrange a
jeep for ?700 .
