Surabhi
(Hotel Sahyadri Bldg; mains ?70-100) Close to the bustling bus stand, Surabhi is a great place to
savour Kolhapur's legendary snacks such as the spicy misal (puffed rice tossed with fried
rounds of dough, lentils, onions, herbs and chutneys), thalis and lassi. Saawan Dining
Hall, located alongside, serves nonveg food.

Getting There & Around
Autorickshaws are abundant in Kolhapur and many drivers carry conversion charts to cal-
culate fares from the outdated meters.
From the bus stand, services head regularly to Pune (semideluxe/deluxe ?262/449, five
hours) and Ratnagiri (ordinary/semideluxe ?115/154, four hours). Most private bus agents
are on the western side of the square at Mahalaxmi Chambers, across from the bus stand.
Overnight services with AC head to Mumbai (seat/sleeper ?450/750, nine hours) and non-
AC overnighters go to Panaji (?245, 5½ hours).
The train station, which is known as Chattrapati Shahu Maharaj Terminus, is 10
minutes' walk west of the bus stand. Three daily expresses, including the 10.50pm Sahy-
adri Express, zoom to Mumbai (sleeper/2AC ?302/1195, 13 hours) via Pune (sleeper/2AC
?236/855, eight hours). The Rani Chennama Express makes the long voyage to Bengaluru
(sleeper/2AC ?371/1575, 17½ hours, 2.20pm).
