In-Depth Information
A taxi from South Mumbai to the international airport should be around ?500; negotiate
a fare beforehand. Add ?10 per bag and 25% to the meter charge at night, and add an hour
onto the journey time between 4pm and 8pm.
Domestic
There's a prepaid taxi counter in the arrivals hall. A non-AC/AC taxi costs ?380/465 to
Colaba or Fort and ?220/265 to Bandra, plus ?10/15 service charge, ?10 per bag and 25%
extra at night.
Alternatively, catch an autorickshaw (around ?35) or bus 312 from the airport to Vile
Parle station, where you can get a train to Churchgate (?7, 45 minutes). Don't attempt this
during rush hour (6am to 11am).
BOAT
Both PNP ( 22885220) and Maldar Catamarans ( 22829695) run regular ferries to Mandwa
(oneway ?110 to ?135), useful for access to Murud-Janjira and other parts of the Konkan
Coast, avoiding the long bus trip out of Mumbai. Buy tickets near the Gateway of India.
BUS
Mumbai's great and cheap local buses are run by BEST ( www.bestundertaking.com ) , whose web-
site has a useful search facility for city routes. Fares start at ?5 (day passes are ?40), which
you pay on-board. It's handy to learn Devanagiri numerals so you can read the bus num-
bers on the front. Beware of 'LTD' buses, which make limited stops.
The following useful buses all stop along Colaba Causeway and outside the museum.
