BUS
Numerous private operators and state governments run long-distance buses to and from
Mumbai.
Long-distance government-run buses depart from the well-organised Mumbai Central bus
terminal MAP GOOGLE MAP ( inquiry 23024075) right by Mumbai Central train station.
They're cheaper and more frequent than private services, but the quality and crowd levels
vary; MSRTC (Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation; 1800 221250; www.msrtc.gov.in ) is not as
well developed as some of its counterparts in other states.
Private buses are usually more comfortable and simpler to book but can cost signific-
antly more than government buses. Most depart from Dr Anadrao Nair Rd near Mumbai
Central train station, but many buses to southern destinations depart from Paltan Rd, near
Crawford Market. To check on departure times and current prices, visit Citizen Travels MAP

( 23015652; Dr Anadrao Nair Rd) , though most private-bus operators are similar in price and
quality. Fares to popular destinations (like Goa) are up to 75% higher during holiday peri-
ods.
More convenient for Goa and southern destinations are the private buses run by Chandni
