Getting There & Away
» Bus Bus 892 leaves from a stop 200m west of Pingguoyuan subway station (take Exit D
and turn right) and goes to Zhāitáng (¥16, two hours, 6.30am to 5.50pm); then take a taxi
(¥20) for the last 6km to Chuāndǐxià. The last bus back leaves Zhāitáng at 5pm. If you
miss it, it's around ¥200 for a taxi to Pingguoyuan.

EATING & SLEEPING IN CHUĀNDǏXIÀ
Restaurant and guesthouse signs are clearly labelled in English, so places are easy to spot. Your best bet is to
simply wander round and find what best suits you. Most restaurants have English menus. Specialities here in-
clude walnuts, apricots and roast leg of lamb.
» Cuan Yun Inn ( Chuànyùn Kèzhàn; 23 Chuāndǐxià Village, mains ¥20-40; 6.30am-8.30pm) The best
place to sample roast leg of lamb ( kǎo yáng tuǐ; ¥150). On the right of main road as you enter the village.
» Chéng Bǎo Inn ( Chéngbǎo Kèzhàn; bed ¥20, r ¥80-100, mains ¥20-40) This 400-year-old building (which
translates as Castle Inn) is perched high above much of the village and enjoys fine views from its terrace res-
taurant. Rooms are set around the back courtyard and are simple but charming, with bits of antique furniture.
Two of the four rooms have traditional stone kàng beds, which can be fire-heated in winter. The shared bath-
room has no shower, but you can use their neighbour's. Chéng Bǎo Inn is in the top left-hand corner of the vil-
lage.
