In-Depth Information
Linking two of the above hikes together, this takes in the spectacular restored section at
Huánghuā Chéng, before leading to the ruined beauty of Zhuàngdàokǒu and beyond.
Mùtiányù to Shuǐ Chángchéng
» two to three days
For hardcore hikers only, combine four or five of the hikes mentioned here into one
massive, multiday trip. Bank on at least two days, possibly three. You'll either need to
camp on the Wall or find villages to stay in each evening. When you reach the wall at
Mùtiányù, turn left and keep going until you reach Jiànkòu (you know when you reach
this section because of the huge sweeping u-turn the Wall takes). Some time after Jiànkòu,
you'll reach two forks in the Wall. At the first one, take the left fork; at the second one,
the right fork, then keep hiking to Xiǎngshuǐhú, a section of the Wall by water, which has
been opened up for tourism. It's at least another day's hike from here to Huánghuā Chéng.
At Huánghuā Chéng, you'll have to cross the road by the reservoir before rejoining the
Wall to Zhuàngdàokǒu and Shuǐ Chángchéng, from where you can catch a bus back to
Huáiróu.
