Cooking Classes
One of the joys of visiting Běijīng is sampling the superb food on offer, and many people
want to replicate the mouth- watering dishes they've tasted once they return home. Now
you can, by taking one of the short courses on offer at the variety of cooking schools, run
by established chefs, that have mushroomed in the city. Learn to chop like a Chinese cook,
as well as how to make delicious dumplings, hand-pulled noodles or even tongue-numbing
Sìchuān dishes.
Bike Sharing
In an effort to get people back on board the mode of transport most associated with the cap-
ital, Běijīng's government is making 50,000 bicycles available at 1000 kiosks around the
city - and at the knockdown price of ¥1 per hour (¥300 deposit).
National Museum of China
It's been a long wait but finally this mammoth museum has reopened. As well as offering a
guide to 5000 years of Chinese history and culture, there are rotating exhibitions from both
home and overseas. ( CLICK HERE )
Temple Restaurant
The fine dining scene in Běijīng has exploded in recent years, but the opening of this shrine
to contemporary European cuisine has really upped the ante. As an added bonus, the
Temple is located in a long-out-of-bounds 600-year-old temple complex. ( CLICK HERE )
Micro-brewing
Běijīng is undergoing a brewing revolution, with a number of micro-breweries offering a
welcome alternative to the ubiquitous Yanjing and Tsingtao beers.
New Metro Lines
The roads are more jammed than ever, but compensation has come in the form of new
metro lines. Line 9 especially has opened up the previously hard-to-reach southwest, and
made it much easier to get to Běijīng West Train Station.
