BĚIHǍI PARK
With an extraordinary history as the former palace of the great Mongol emperor Kublai Khan, and back garden
for the subsequent Yuan dynasty emperors, Běihǎi Park is the principal oasis for Beijingers in this part of town.
With the tranquil lake of Běihǎi (literally 'North Sea') at its centre, and temples, pavilions and spirit walls
scattered around it, the park offers visitors a rare chance in Běijīng to combine sightseeing with fun, whether it's
mucking around in a boat, having a picnic or just watching the dancing, taichi and the parade of humanity that
passes through.
