TEMPLE OF HEAVEN PARK
The collection of halls and altars set within the delightful 276-hectare Temple of Heaven Park ( Tiāntán Gōngy-
uán) is the most perfect example of Ming architectural design and absolutely extraordinary to contemplate. Each
year, the Chinese emperors - the sons of heaven - came here to seek divine clearance and good harvests and to
atone for the sins of their people in an esoteric ceremony of prayers and ritual sacrifices. Everything about the
complex is unique, with shape, colour and sound combining to take on symbolic significance. The park itself is
equally harmonious, a true oasis amid Běijīng's bedlam.
