This pocket-sized
shop is the best place in the area to pick up albums produced by Chinese artists. The guy
who runs it speaks enough English to help you decide and is happy to let you listen to an
album that takes your fancy. There's music of all types from all over China (as well as
some international stuff), but the focus is on local rock bands and folk music. CDs cost
between ¥25 and ¥100.

TIĀN YÌ GOODS MARKET

There's little in the way of
conventional souvenirs here (although there are some), but the fact that tourists don't shop
here means that whatever you buy is almost bound to be a bargain. This isn't so much the
place to come to buy gifts for friends back home; it's where to come for that gadget
you've lost, or those pair of gloves you didn't think you'd need. Items for sale include
electronics, stationery and toys (ground floor), jewellery and souvenirs (1st floor), sports
equipment, including kites and table-tennis sets (2nd floor), clothing (3rd floor) and shoes,
including flip-flops and old-school Chinese plimsolls (4th floor).

JH 2ND-HAND BIKE SHOP
( Jīndiǎn Xīnqiáo Xìntuō Shàngháng; 43 Dongsibei Dajie, 9am-5pm; Beixinqiao)
You can pick up all
sorts here, from battered old Tiānjīn-made Flying Pigeons and Shànghǎi Forevers (some-
times starting as cheap as ¥100) to lovingly restored British-made Raleighs that go for up
to ¥5000. There are also some new bikes on display, but the quality of them isn't as good
as at the nearby Giant shop.

One of a string of decent bike shops
on this stretch of road, Giant has the biggest range of new bicycles and bike equipment,
such as helmets, locks and baby seats. Bikes start at around ¥500.
