8. Overall the mixture should be roughly 50 percent moisture. You should be able to squeeze a
ball of it in your hand and lightly toss it up and down without having it break. If you can't get
the mixture to form a ball, start adding small amounts of water one cup at a time, mixing, and
then trying to form a ball after each cup. If the mixture is too soupy — meaning you can take
the ball and squeeze it and have a lot of liquid run out between your fingers, or you can't even
form a ball — then slowly add small amounts of dry bran one cup at a time, mixing, and then
repeatingthetestuntilyougettheoptimumconsistency.Itmaytakeafewroundstogetitright,
but after you make a few batches, you will get a feel for the optimum consistency.
