It has a fitness of 8.24180 and an R-square of 0.9025703053 and, therefore,
is better than the models (7.6) and (7.7) created with the unigenic STROGA-
NOFF systems. Note that gene 0 encodes a very simple expression with just
three nodes and that gene 2 codes for a tree with just one node (argument j );
gene 1, though, codes for a complex solution with a total of 15 nodes. Note
also that, again, seven out of eight function nodes consist of function F 2 .
Let's now see what kind of solutions can be designed by the much simpler
GEP systems.
7.3.2 Simpler GEP Systems
For all the GEP systems, a very simple function set composed of the basic
arithmetical operators was chosen, that is, F = {+, -, *, /} with each function
weighted four times, thus also making for a total of 16 functions in the func-
tion set. For both the GEA-B and multicellular systems, the set of terminals
T = {a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j}, which correspond, respectively, to t -10, t -9, ...,
t -1. For both the GEP-RNC and MCS-RNC experiments, the set of terminals
