SECURITY - SANAʻA
Sanaʻa was the centre of the 2011 protests. These started peacefully enough but within a few months Sanaʻa was
reduced to a virtual war zone with street to street fighting taking place in some quarters of the city. Things are
calmer than before but the city still faces major problems and frequent bombings, kidnappings and shootings.
Old Sana'a
It would be fair to say that the Unesco-protected old city of Sanaʻa is one of the most
beautiful cities anywhere on earth and nothing is likely to prepare you for the moment you
first pass through the gates of the Bab al-Yaman. Most people spend days wandering
without aim through this enormous work of art and that's certainly the best way to absorb
this magnificent city.
