In-Depth Information
Sheesa Beach ( in Oman +968 2 683 6551; www.sheesabeach.com ; Dibba Bayal, Oman; 8am-5pm) , on the
waterfront about 3km north of the Corniche border crossing, organises dhow cruises and
dive trips, while Absolute Adventure (
04-345 9900; www.adventure.ae ; day trips from Dh350;
Oct-
Apr) specialises in trekking, mountain biking and kayaking tours.
At press time, travellers eligible for a free UAE tourist visa did not require an Omani
visa to cross into Musandam (bring your passport), but UAE authorities had tightened re-
quirements for UAE residents. Look into the current situation before heading out (eg by
calling a hotel or tour operator).
Sleeping
There's camping along Dibba beach as well as in the dunes north of the Golden Tulip Hotel
on the Omani side. Nearby, Absolute Adventure rents a simple beachfront house with
bunk beds to groups of up to six people for Dh1250 to Dh1950 per day, including break-
fast.
Royal Beach Hotel$$ HOTEL
(
09-244 9444; www.royalbeach.ae ; 8km south of Dibba; r incl breakfast weekday/weekend Dh640/975;
)
This friendly, low-key indie resort sits on a splendid stretch of golden sand facing Dibba
Rock, a popular dive and snorkelling site thanks to its shallow coral gardens. On-site
Freestyle Divers ( Click here ) rents gear and also does dive trips and PADI courses. All
rooms have a private terrace facing a manicured lawn and the private beach strewn with
barasti umbrellas. The hotel does not sell alcohol but there's a handy off-licence hole-in-
the-wall (open noon to 2am) nearby. Ask around… Otherwise, the nearest place to get a
buzz is the scruffy Holiday Beach Hotel next door.
Radisson Blu Resort, Fujairah$$ RESORT
( 244 9700; www.radissonblu.com/resort-fujairah ; 6km south of Dibba; d incl breakfast from Dh800; )
With its modest entrance hidden at the end of a long, narrow driveway, the Radisson may
not be the kind of place that wows you at first glance. But beyond the generic lobby you'll
find yourself in an immaculately kept, well-run, full-service property with multiple pools,
several good restaurants and smiley staff. Even standard rooms are large and all have sea-
facing balconies.
