beautifully restored 1768 fort served as the local rulers' residence and seat of government
until 1969. Highlights include the fine majlis (meeting room), old Bedouin jewellery,
fancy weapons and such prized archaeological finds as two statues of headless falcons.

lands are home to lots of birds, including graceful flamingos and the largest Socotra cor-
morant colony in the UAE. The Flamingo Beach Resort can arrange for boat trips to the
