Traffic fades to a quiet hum in the
labyrinthine lanes of Dubai's heritage quarter (formerly known as the Bastakia Quarter),
teeming with restored wind-tower houses built a century ago by Persian pearl and textile
merchants. Today, no one lives here any longer and buildings house cultural offices, small
