TOURIST INFORMATION
There are no tourist information centres as such, but the Qatar Tourism Authority
( www.experienceqatar.com ) provides good general information on its website.
Local travel agencies are the best in situ source of information regarding Doha.
Getting There & Away
Qatar's only public airport is Doha International Airport ( 44 656 666; www.dohaairport.com ) which
has recently been upgraded while awaiting the completion of the new airport in 2015. A
number of airlines including Qatar Airways ( www.qatarairways.com ) , the country's main airline,
and Gulf Air ( Click here ) have offices at the airport. Many airlines have offices in the Air-
line Centre (Ras Abu Abboud St) and Al-Sadd Plaza (C Ring Rd) , south of the city centre.
Getting Around
TO/FROM THE AIRPORT
Most top-end hotels and resorts provide free transport to/from the airport. Karwa taxis
(turquoise in colour) are regulated by the government. They are clean, safe and metered.
The journey between the airport and central Doha costs a minimum of QR25. Avoid tak-
ing unofficial taxi rides from the touts at the airport who illegally claim business for their
private car. Karwa buses between the airport and the Al-Ghanim bus station leave every
hour between 5.50am and 11.50pm from Saturday to Thursday. The service starts an hour
later on Friday.
BUS
The national bus company provides comfortable city services around Doha in environ-
mentally friendly, battery-powered and LPG-fuelled vehicles. Timetables are displayed at
each of the sheltered bus stops.
Karwa Public Bus ( 44 588 588; www.eng.mowasalat.com ; 4.30am-10.30pm) This government-run
service operates buses every 15 to 30 minutes along many different routes around the city.
All routes start from Al-Ghanim bus station and have stops every 750m. There is a min-
imum charge of QR2 and a maximum charge of QR3 for inner city rides. Services to Al
Wakra, Wukair, Al Khor, Dukhan, Mesaieed and Al-Shahaniya are also available with a
maximum charge of QR9. To travel by bus, you must purchase a Karwa Smartcard.
