Drinking & Nightlife
Bars
In the absence of nightclubs or pubs, hotel bars double as nightlife in Doha. They are gen-
erally only open to hotel residents and 'members' (who pay a nominal annual 'member-
ship'). These rules, however, are continually relaxing and even Qataris can now be seen in
some of these establishments (once strictly forbidden).

( 44 015 888; West Bay, InterContinental Doha - The City; 6pm-2am)
On the 56th floor of this
brand new hotel, this is already a head-spinning venue - and that's more to do with the
mixologist's concoctions than the vertiginous views. The only challenge is working out
which 'vertical bus' delivers you to the top floor.

One of the most lively bars in town is
the Paloma. It's the best place for live music and doubles as a Tex-Mex restaurant. The
Lava Lounge, also here, is another hip spot.
Pearl Lounge

Draped across
two floors of an opulent central hotel. Has a large menu of tasty temptations to accompany
the bangs, sours and fizzes.
Coffeehouses
The private
majlis
(meeting room) is popular around town, where men congregate over
tea or coffee for a chat, or to share news or watch TV together.
