freshly baked pastries, home-made ice creams and sorbets, and some innovative sand-
wiches, this cafe, set in a traditional Qatari house with Arabic cushions and barasti (palm
leaf) ceilings, is a firm favourite with residents.

style tent, this popular restaurant is a relaxed place to try delicious Arabic fare or a puff of
sheesha (water pipe used to smoke tobacco) under swinging Arabian lamps. The waiters
are accustomed to helping people find their way around a Middle Eastern menu of mezze
(small preparatory dishes).
Al-Tawash Restaurant$$ QATARI

fully resurrected Qatari building (on the corner of the main thoroughfare and the lane
leading to the car park) is an atmospheric venue for sampling traditional Qatari fare. Seat-
ing areas include a Bedouin tent enclosure, open terrace and private cubbyhole, lavished
with Syrian tables and upholstered cushions and lit with lanterns.
The name may change soon with the new management but the restaurant will remain as
one of the few venues to specialise in Qatari food.

walled seafront restaurant serving Lebanese food has a great location, in full view of the
West Bay skyline. If the hot and cold mezze don't win you over, there's an international
menu. There's a minimum spend of QR100 per person. The adjoining terrace cafe serves
light bites and fresh mango juice in the only open-air venue along the corniche.
