LAND
Oman borders the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Current practicalities mean, however,
that you can only enter UAE. The situation changes frequently and it's worth checking
with the Royal Oman Police ( www.rop.gov.om ; Muscat International Airport) before planning your trip to
see which crossings are open to non-GCC visitors. Visas are obtainable at all Oman bor-
der posts.
Border Crossings
UAE There were four border posts open 24 hours to foreigners at the time of writing:
these are at Wajaja; Khatmat Milahah; Tibat; and Buraimi.
Yemen There are two border posts with Yemen at Sarfait and Mazyunah. Both were
closed to tourists at the time of writing.
Bus
UAE The Oman National Transport Company (ONTC; 24 490948; www.ontcoman.com ) has buses on
the Oman-Dubai express service at 6am (OR5.500, 5½ hours, daily) departing from Ruwi
bus station ( 24 701294) in Muscat.
Yemen The Gulf Transport Company has buses to Mukhalla in Yemen from Salalah bus
station. However, this service was suspended for foreigners at the time of writing.
Car
It's possible to drive through any of the borders in your own vehicle if you obtain insur-
ance to cover both countries.
