( 23 295332; fax 23 292145; Al-Souq St; r OR15; ) Almost opposite the ONTC bus station,
this good-value hotel has large, comfortable rooms and friendly staff. It is close to the new
souq area and attracts an interesting mixture of Omani salespeople and regional travellers.
Crowne Plaza Resort Salalah$$$ RESORT
( 23 238000; www.cpsalalah.com ; Al-Khandaq St; s/d from OR90/100; ) The main rendezvous
for Western expats, this sociable and highly competent hotel, with rondelles of local
scenes and coloured glass, is the most characterful of the large hotels in and around Sala-
lah. It has a small golf course, beach and terraced restaurants overlooking a magnificent
sandy beach, with waves illuminated each evening beneath the palms.
Hilton Salalah Hotel$$$ RESORT
( 23 211234; www.hilton.com ; As-Sultan Qaboos St; s/d from OR80/90; ) It was a surprise
when the Hilton chose Salalah instead of Muscat. It was an even greater surprise when the
hotel was built 12km along the highway to Mughsail, within view of the enormous Raysut
Port. Despite the cargo boats queuing up on the horizon, and camels charging by the
rather cramped grounds, the hotel is a hit with Nordic holidaymakers.
Juweira Boutique Hotel$$$ BOUTIQUE HOTEL
( 23 239600; www.juweirahotel.com ; Salalah Beach; s/d 88/105; ) It's hard to wholly embrace
the vision of this new hotel, marooned in the middle of lonesome Salalah Beach, some
13km from town. It will make better sense when other parts of the surrounding tourism
and residential complex are open and it's less of a ghost town. In the meantime, the hotel
and its quality amenities offer a peaceful retreat.
Eating
There are plenty of small Indian restaurants along As-Salam St and Sultan Qaboos St near
the Crowne Plaza Resort. All the top-end hotels have good restaurants and cafes, with
Western menus and prices to match. There are numerous cold stores, supermarkets and
hypermarkets, including Lulu, all over town for picnic items.
