In-Depth Information
It is a feasible drive, however, from Dubai. The only border post allowing access to the
Musandam Peninsula is at Al-Darah/Tibat, on the western coast of the UAE. Expat resid-
ents in Oman and the UAE cannot currently drive through Wadi Bih to or from Dibba al-
though this is rumoured soon to change. There is a Dh35 road tax to leave the UAE and
OR5 road tax to enter Musandam Peninsula. Visas on arrival are available.
A 4WD is necessary to explore the mountains. You can bring a car (including a rented
car) from Muscat on the ferry.
LONG-DISTANCE TAXI
There is no public transport operating in Musandam. You can book a taxi, though, through
your hotel to Bukha (OR20), Tibat, Khor an-Najd or Jebel Harim (OR30), and Dubai
(OR60).
Getting Around
TO/FROM THE AIRPORT
It's best to arrange transfers with your hotel in advance as there are no taxis near the air-
port. The airport is 2km from the souq and 6km from the harbour if you'd rather walk.
CAR
Car hire (2WD/4WD OR13/39) is available from the ever-obliging Omani owner of
Khasab Rent-a-Car ( 99447400) . A 4WD with a driver costs OR60 per day. Cars can be de-
livered to your hotel and dropped off at the ferry terminal. You can also try Rahaal Khasab (
99 441700; hayatix5@hotmail.com) for cheap 4WD deals from OR25 per day.
TAXI
The orange-and-white taxis in town are owned by locals running errands and are not use-
ful as public transport. If you want to go into town, or beyond, ask the hotel or an agency
to arrange transport for you.

Khasab-Tibat
Road
The cliff-hugging 42km, 90-minute drive from Khasab to Tibat is a highlight of a trip to
Musandam. The sealed road is a feat of engineering and affords spectacular views across
the Strait of Hormuz. There are a few sites of interest along the way and you could spend
