WARNING: NEW OPENING HOURS
From May 2013, Oman moved from a Thursday and Friday weekend to a Friday and Saturday weekend, in line
with other countries in the Gulf. Although this is great news for the business community who will at last have
more of a working week aligned with the rest of the world, it is proving a headache for others as they contemplate
the rescheduling of transport and the school year, and the reprinting and web update of all marketing and opera-
tional materials.
As the move was announced with very little warning, it is likely to take some time for tourist destinations and
services in Oman to amend their information bulletins and websites to reflect the change; some destinations, such
as souqs that have taken place on a Thursday for centuries, are unlikely to be mindful of the edict. At the time of
writing, the new weekend days had not come into effect; as such, opening hours given throughout this chapter do
not reflect the change. See
