( 2223 0030; www.marinahotel.com ; Arabian Gulf St, Salmiya; s/d KD110/124; ) Situated on the
edge of bustling Marina Crescent and within walking distance from the shopping district
of Salmiya, this low-rise hotel floats like a lily on the water's edge and offers many rooms
with direct access onto the beach. Sophisticated, elegant and modern, this is one boutique
hotel that succeeds in being practical as well as aesthetically pleasing.
If you get bored of gazing at the sea outside your bedroom window, you could always
sit in the lobby and enjoy the aquarium behind reception instead. The hotel's Atlantis res-
taurant, in the shape of a ship's prow, is an excellent place to sample the catch of the day.
Eating
Perhaps the city's best-loved activity, dining out is something of an institution, and there
are literally hundreds of restaurants to suit all wallets and palates. The eateries listed be-
low represent an eclectic hotchpotch of choices that have a flavour of the region either in
the cuisine or in the ambience.
One of the liveliest places to enjoy the night breeze over a chilled fruit juice - and a
choice of grilled, baked and fried fishy delights - is in and around Marina Crescent in
Salmiya. The plaza and its many cafes and restaurants is attached by footbridge to the
Marina Mall in Salmiya and is a relaxed meeting place of Kuwaiti families throughout the
weekend.
