All of the budget hotels reviewed have air-con, TV (many with satellite) and a bath-
room with hot water, but if you can stretch your budget to midrange, it's worth it.
Most of the midrange hotels listed have excellent-value rooms but you may never know
it! If you are offered a carpetless broom cupboard, without windows, or a room overlook-
ing the stairwell, ask to see another, or stipulate a room with a view.
Most of the top-end hotel prices listed include tax and breakfast.

The curious mix of Parisi-
an art deco (in the Al Banco Café) and the Lovely Gifts kiosk on the ground floor gives a
certain character to the hotel but rooms vary widely from unacceptable with paper-thin
walls, to comfortable and almost elegant with full-length drapes. Rockland Café Bar is a
popular den.

on the night-time pulse of Manama for years. The foyer doubles as a popular Lebanese
restaurant that's always humming with locals, and the upper floors offer entertainment
venues with a live band every night. As such, you'll be enticed to spend more time outside
the room than in it - thankfully.
