Ollantaytambo ( Click here )
In the morning, drive out into the Sacred Valley . The first stop is the charming village of
Pisac , renowned for its sprawling artisan's market. The hills above town are home to an
Inca fortification that offers wondrous views of the valley.
Afterwards, continue the journey to Ollantaytambo (about an hour away), a charismatic
indigenous village that retains its inherently Inca form. Bed down here for the night. Then
wake up early to see its Inca ruins - an important spot where the Incas once fended off
the Spanish in a historic battle.
OLLANTAYTAMBO AGUAS CALIENTES & MACHU PICCHU
Two hours
Aguas Calientes & Machu Picchu ( Click here )
A scenic train ride takes you to Aguas Calientes, the bustling transit point that serves as a
base for exploring the fabled Machu Picchu. Our recommendation: arrange to spend two
to three nights here. The ruins are sprawling, the scenery is spectacular and there are
amazing opportunities for day hikes to the peaks of Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu as
well as the Intipunku , the point known as the Sun Gate.
