This bright, enticing lodge is one of the southern
Amazon's best. Its spacious rooms, fashioned out of reclaimed timber, make you feel like
a well-to-do early 20th-century traveler. The serene location could hardly be better, with
an on-site rainforest learning center and laboratory, its own private
cocha
(an indigenous
word for lagoon) and the beautiful Lago Sandoval barely a stone's throw away. There is
electricity a few hours a day.

Puerto Maldonado

Cuzco 436)
Further down the Madre de Dios, almost 16km from Puerto Maldonado, this
luxurious choice has 10km of private hiking trails, canopy walkways, and a bar built
around a fig tree. About 40 rustic individual cabins have bathrooms and porches with two
hammocks. Six suites boast huge bathrooms, writing desks and two queen beds each.
There is also a library and a relaxation area and some of the southern Amazon's best
meals are served here.
