AMAZON GOLF CLUB
( 963-1333, 975-4976; Quistacocha; admission per day incl club rental S60; 6am-6pm) Founded
in 2004 by a bunch of nostalgic expats, the 2140m course was built on bushland just out-
side Iquitos and boasts (apart from its nine greens) a wooden clubhouse. Hole 4 is a
beauty: you tee onto an island surrounded by piranha-infested waters. Don't go fishing for
lost balls!

Tours
Jungle 'guides' will approach you everywhere in Iquitos. Legitimate guides should have a
permit or license − if they don't, check with the tourist office. Get references for any
guide, and proceed carefully. Lodges have their own stable of guides (frequently the best
ones).
GERSON PIZANGO
( 965-012-225; www.amazonjungleguide.com ; daily per person US$50-70) Gerson comes reader-
recommended and is renowned as one of Iquitos' best independent guides. Tailored tours
can include activities such as wildlife-spotting, boating excursions down little-plied tribu-
taries and visits to local communities.

This outfit, formerly Amazon Adventure Expeditions, is recommended for providing
lengthier excursions into the jungle. These are true adventures, where you do things like
catch your own food.
