4 INDIGENOUS PEOPLE
Manu is home to about 100 indigenous tribes and their members live throughout the re-
serve. Some are remote groups that still live in the traditional way. My brother William
recently saw at least 10 members of the remote Mashco Piro tribe from a boat - and
one attacked it with arrows. The tribe normally lives in the heart of Parque Nacional
Manu but they might have been fighting with another tribe, which forced them to
search for a new place to live, closer to settlements on the Río Alto Madre de Dios.
