(Santo Domingo 426; mains S15-25) It may not look like much from the outside, but a lovely
courtyard dining room awaits inside. The specialty is tacu tacu, seen here in nine variet-
ies. The lomo saltado is conversation -stopping good, especially when doused in the house
hot pepper sauce.

(Ortiz Arrieta 753; mains S12-30) Service is infamously slow but always worth the wait at this
classic Chachapoyas grill house. Try the cuadril (tri-tip), a succulent beef cut, and inter-
esting creations such as lomo fino (sirloin) with a spicy pisco sauce.

Getting There & Away
Although Chachapoyas has an airport, at the time of writing no carriers flew in or out of
it. Most travelers arrive via organized tours from Chiclayo, or on one of the long-haul bus
services (also from Chiclayo). The following services are recommended:
