MUSEO DE SITIO CHAN CHAN
(admission free with Chan Chan ticket) On the main road, 500m before the Chan Chan turnoff,
you'll find this museum, which contains exhibits explaining the Chimú culture. The aerial
photos and maps showing the huge extension of Chan Chan are fascinating. Here you will
also find bathrooms, as well as souvenir and snack vendors.

HUACA ESMERALDA
(admission free with Chan Chan ticket) Halfway between Trujillo and Chan Chan, this temple
was discovered, buried in the sand, by an unsuspecting landowner in 1923. Although little
restoration work has been done to its adobe friezes, it is still possible to make out the
characteristic Chimú designs of fish, seabirds, waves and fishing nets.
Note: thieves reportedly prey on unwary tourists wandering around. It is best to go with
a group or guide.
