Kuélap Don't Miss List

1 EL TINTERO
El Tintero (The Inkpot) stands out for the unique structural and ritual features of its in-
verted cone structure. It's a solid raised round structure with a center hole on the top
where offerings were deposited. Don't miss the carved human face at the base of the
stone staircase entrance.
2 PUEBLO ALTO
As you enter the citadel, walk to the northern part of the site, where a small ramp leads
to the upper section. Once there, pay attention to the large rectangular Callanca Inka
(dorm room), the small quadrangular ritual temple, and the outstanding view from the
northern Torreon (watchtower).
3 MAIN ENTRANCE (ENTRANCE 1)
Slow down on your exit via Entrance 1 so you don't miss the small carvings, including
a carved face (on your right) and carved figures of a double headed snake, hybrid bird
and small faces (halfway down on your left). Almost at the exit, look for the bedrock
with a canal that filters water. Here you'll see an impressive carved figure of an inver-
ted feline on your right.
