( 58-2222; Plaza Nazarenas 144; lunch mains US$19-27, dinner tasting menu per person US$84; )
Located inside the Palacio Nazarenas hotel, this sedate poolside eatery has a menu de-
signed by Lima celebrity chef Virgilio Martinez. And the focus is all local: tender alpaca
medallions are seared with palo santo (a type of fragrant wood), local potatoes are
smashed and blended with Andean herbs and red quinoa salad comes in a bright
citrus-passion-fruit dressing. It's not cheap, but the market-fresh cooking and excellent
service make it a singular treat.
Note that lunch is à la carte and dinner is served as a tasting menu (with vegetarian op-
tion).

( 25-5134; Ruinas 415, 2nd l; menú S15, mains from S22; 9am-11:30pm; ) Stuffed animals,
board games and decor perfectly evoke the circus you dreamed of running away to as a
child. Pitched at families, but with wide appeal, the menu includes burritos, falafel and
tasty little fried things to pick at. Plus, there's a whole separate menu for vegetarians.

(Santa Catalina Ancha 384; menu S8; 6:30am-10pm; ) This economical vegetarian restaurant
offers set lunches with a salad-bar starter, rib-sticking barley soup and mains like tofu and
wilted veggies with rice. What it lacks in subtlety, it makes up for in abundance.
