Getting There & Away
Air
Arequipa's Rodríguez Ballón International Airport (code AQP;
44-3458) is about 8km
northwest of the city center.

Bus
Most bus companies have departures from the terminal terrestre or the smaller Terrapu-
erto bus terminal, which stand next to each other on Av Andrés Avelino Cáceres, 3km
south of the city center (take a taxi for S5). Check in advance which terminal your bus
leaves from and keep a close watch on your belongings. There's a S1 departure tax from
either terminal.
Some regional bus routes are useful for sightseeing in canyon country. These generally
travel to Chivay (three hours), in the Cañón del Colca, with some continuing to
Cabanaconde (six hours). Travel times and costs vary. It is best to purchase tickets in ad-
vance. During the wet season (December to April), expect delays. The following are the
