Information
There's no tourist office in Pisco, but travel agencies on the main plaza and police (
53-2884; San Francisco 132; 24hr) help when they can. Everything else you'll need is found
around the Plaza de Armas, including internet cafes.
On its knees after the earthquake, the city acquired a reputation for crime, but the curtain
is lifting. Commerce-packed streets should be fine during the daytime (there's a notable
police presence in the city center). After dark, it's best to utilize taxis.
Getting There & Around
Pisco is 6km west of the Carr Panamericana Sur, and only buses with Pisco as the final
destination actually go there. A number of companies offer service between Lima and the
beach district of Paracas, stopping at various points in the area. These include:
Cruz del Sur (
53-6336)
Oltursa (
in Lima 01-708-5000; www.oltursa.com.pe )
Ormeño ( 53-2764; San Francisco, Pisco)
These companies also make the journey to points south, such as Ica, Nazca and Arequipa.
Onward bus tickets can be purchased via Paracas Explorer ( Click here ) .
A short taxi ride around town costs roughly S3. A collective taxi between Pisco and
Paracas costs roughly the same and takes 20 minutes. These depart frequently near Pisco's
central market.
