Museo
ancient artifacts. The bay in front of the complex is the best spot to see Chilean flamingos,
spotted (June through August).
A few hundred meters behind the visitor complex are the 5000-year-old remains of the
tiles. A stash of more than 400 funerary bundles was found here, each wrapped in many
layers of colorful woven shrouds for which the Paracas culture is famous.
Beyond this, 6km away on the southern tip of the peninsula, lies the miniscule (and
largely forgettable) fishing outpost of
Lagunillas
. From here, the road continues on a few
of the ocean and a sea-lion colony. Other seashore life around the reserve includes flotillas
of jellyfish, some of which reach 70cm in diameter, with trailing stinging tentacles of 1m.
