Gaze Upon a Sacriicial Maiden
The Museo Santuarios Andinos (

) in Arequipa contains the remains of 'Juanita,
the Ice Princess,' a 12-year-old Inca girl who was sacrificed to the gods on a nearby moun-
tain. Discovered in the 1990s, frozen, and almost entirely intact, the wondrous maiden now
inhabits a special icy chamber within this small but well-kept university museum. It doesn't
get more surreal - or moving - than this.
