In-Depth Information
Lima's Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez (code LIM; 517-3100; www.lap.com.pe ;
Callao) is stocked with the usual facilities, plus a pisco boutique. For international flights, it
is advisable to arrive three hours prior to check-in.
Flights are subject to a departure tax (international/domestic US$31/6). These are gener-
ally included in the ticket.
Bus
There is no central bus terminal; each company operates its ticketing and departure points
independently. Some companies have several terminals, so always clarify from which
point a bus leaves when buying tickets. In addition, companies have various classes of
service. For long trips, look for buses with bus cama service - large reclining seats. It is
best to buy tickets in advance for popular destinations such as Cuzco.

Car
Lima has major intersections without stoplights, kamikaze bus drivers, spectacular traffic
jams and little to no parking. If you still dare to get behind the wheel, there are several US
companies that have 24-hour desks at the airport. Prices range from about S130-338 per
day, not including surcharges, insurance and taxes (of about 19%). Hiring a taxi is your
best option.
